St. Tammany Parish Awarded Funding to Support Resiliency Project at Safe Haven Campus

Pat Brister, St. Tammany Parish President, announced that St. Tammany Parish Government has been awarded funding to support a resiliency project on the Safe Haven Campus, through the Louisiana’s Strategic Adaptations for Future Environments (LA SAFE) initiative. The news came today through an announcement by Governor John Bel Edwards at a 10 a.m. press conference. The project was introduced by the citizens of St. Tammany Parish, supported by the residents in public meetings, and in the end, voted for by St. Tammany Parish citizens as one component of the competitive process.  LA SAFE held individual engagement events in 2017 to gather public input on six proposed projects in St. Tammany Parish, as well as other proposed projects throughout the State.

“I want to thank the residents of St. Tammany for participating in this process, because it is through your input, and your recognition of its value to our community, that we will see these dollars spent on Safe Haven,” said Pat Brister, St. Tammany Parish President. “Many thanks also to LA Safe for their work in generating public interest and for listening to our citizens. The concept of Safe Haven is something we are very proud of, and the Safe Haven facility is going to have an incredible impact on behavioral health care in St. Tammany.”

You can view the Safe Haven resilience project here. Ten projects across six parishes were identified. This initiative, of the State of Louisiana’s Office of Community Development’s Disaster Recovery Unit, is done in partnership with Foundation for Louisiana. This funding is through a federal grant to promote resiliency.

In 2015 Pat Brister, St. Tammany Parish President, announced her administration’s vision of developing a comprehensive system of behavioral health care in St. Tammany. Safe Haven will provide a collaborative healing environment for the behavioral health continuum by creating a high-quality, coordinated, sustainable and humane network of care anchored in St. Tammany Parish. The facility will serve as a comprehensive multi- faceted program and a “single point of entry” into the Behavioral Health continuum of care for law enforcement, the judiciary and local area hospitals.
