Fishing opportunities, education, creating jobs and economic growth continue to be major priorities at community meetings focused on adapting to land loss across Terrebonne and Lafourche.
The meetings are part of Louisiana Safe, or LA SAFE, a state initiative to create plans to help coastal communities adapt to future land loss.
“It’s vitally important we have public input because this is one of those rare opportunities where the government is not coming in and saying, ‘this is what you’re going to do.’ But the government is coming in and saying, ‘look, we have the resources to help you figure out what to do. But nobody knows this area better than you do, so what do you want to see happen for the future of your community?’” said Nick Matherne, project manager with CB&I and a Lafourche representative with LA SAFE.
