Communities in south Lafourche and north Terrebonne discussed what was important for their communities to thrive 10, 25 and 50 years from now.
Wednesday’s community meetings were two of seven in the area aimed at coming up with a plan for each community to adapt to coastal land loss. Community members from Gray, Schriever and Gibson met at the Terrebonne Parish Library North Branch, and south Lafourche residents met at St Joseph Catholic Church in Galliano.
LA SAFE, or Louisiana’s Strategic Adaptation for Future Environments, is a policy framework that accompanies Louisiana’s $50 billion coastal master plan. The goal is to understand what the master plan can accomplish and develop a strategy on how coastal parishes will adapt to rapid land loss in the meantime.
