Lafourche Parish residents and regional community members pitched their preferences for potential projects aimed to help the community grapple with Louisiana’s changing landscape and coastal erosion into the future.
LA SAFE representatives returned to Lafourche Parish with six project proposals after months of research, planning and drafting. Community members were invited to cast votes to show their preference of which project should be funded.
LA SAFE, or Louisiana’s Strategic Adaptations for Future Environments, is aimed to help six parishes, including Terrebonne and Lafourche, come up with community-focused plans to adapt to Louisiana’s changing landscape and complement the state’s Coastal Master Plan. Monday night’s proposal unveiling was part of LA SAFE’s fifth and final round of meetings to let resident’s voices be heard.
“This round is important because this is the first time we’ve come back to the residents with more concrete projects, more things that are really tangible and residents can see their own ideas in the work,” said Liz Williams, the coastal community resilience director at Foundation for Louisiana.
